Flea:

Dogs and other warm-blooded animals are particularly susceptible to fleas in warmer climates or during summer months when temperatures and humidity rise. Dogs can acquire fleas from other pets or from their surroundings. Fleas utilize their powerful back legs to jump onto their “host” (your dog) and then bite, which can lead to itching, hair loss, and even hot spots from scratching, along with inflamed lesions and skin infections. You might also find small dirt-like specks on your pet, which are flea droppings made from digested blood.

The female flea can survive for several weeks on your dog and lay between 20 to 30 eggs daily during that time.
