The rural area of Japan , being less swayed by fashion and industrialisation, held on to their classic methods of fixing indigo and hemp farming. This chambray is composed of a sunbleached warp and richly-dyed indigo weft. The width of the loom suggests that this was grown and perhaps dyed Toshigi prefecture from a non-narcotic hemp variant, a cultivar developed for the Japanese climate.
