Silk, Linen & Cotton + Textile Book

5 teaching days | 6 hotel nights
March 6–12, 2027

This week is about moving from making cloth to making surfaces.

We’ll work mainly on cellulose (cotton and linen),  building deep, earthy colors. Browns that feel grounded. Mineral reds. Plant greens. Golds. Colors that sit in the fiber rather than float on top.

Cellulose asks for a much different approach than wool or silk, and you will learn how to:

  • Work through tannin systems properly
  • Alum in sequence c
  • Control iron when it serves the cloth (and we’ll speak about why we’re doing each step, not just how)
  • Alongside the fabrics, we’ll dye bright yarns so that the stitching later is part of the color plan from the beginning, not something added at the end.

One Morning of Eco Printing

We’ll dedicate one morning to eco printing on cellulose.

Not to produce finished shawls, but to create backgrounds,  surfaces we will continue to build on.

Afternoons: Stitch & Structure

In the afternoons we put away the dye pots and sit down together.

I’m very happy and honored to welcome international textile artist Hagar Shur Fletcher to the studio to guide the stitching portion of the week. Hagar is a multidisciplinary artist whose work moves between photography, sculpture, installation, and textiles, always exploring new ways of expressing ideas through material and form.

Her textile pieces are vibrant, intuitive, and often full of color and unexpected imagery. Through embroidery, stitching, and layered materials she creates playful yet deeply personal works that celebrate imagination and emotional expression.

During the week we will work with stitch as line, repetition, density, and pause — allowing the textile to slowly grow through small, deliberate gestures.

Participants can (and are encouraged to) bring beads, old family photographs, heirloom lace, or textile fragments they may wish to incorporate into their work.

The Textile Book

Over the week, you’ll construct a small textile book from your dyed and stitched materials.

Pages of (eco printed) linen, cotton, with hand-dyed yarns and layered stitch. It will not be a  project that you need to finish in a week, it can be a working one you can continue developing long after the week ends.

About Casa Angelitos

Our residency takes place at Boutique Hotel Casa Angelitos in San Miguel de Allende, a privately owned, character-filled property with unmistakable Mexican charm.

The rooms are individually styled, colorful, and slightly quirky in the best possible way, with textured walls, and handcrafted details.

The terrace where we work offers sweeping views across San Miguel, sunrise and sunset light over the hills becoming part of the rhythm of our days.

Casa Angelitos is run by a warm and attentive team, together with its dedicated owner, who cares deeply about creating a welcoming and personal atmosphere for our group.

Each morning and on teaching days at lunch, we are served fresh, farm-to-table organic meals, thoughtfully prepared juices, local produce, and seasonal dishes that nourish long studio days without weighing us down.

Accessibility

It is so important to make my courses accessible to everyone, but Mexico just...isn't. If you have mobility issues please contact me before making any decisions and we will see together if this is a do-able fit for you.

Great for your truck when you need just a little extra place to haul groceries.
Size: 59 inches
When you run out of room in the back seat of the truck, this is a little way to add a little structure and keep it from rolling around on the trip home. These are great in that they have compartments, as well as provide a wall to keep things form slamming to the front when you hit the breaks.

Quality product, the double netting is great compared to single
Size: Doube Layer
It is a double net. It holds items down and is really stretchy which is great. Feels strong and has multiple carabiners/loops to tie down whatever you are hauling.

Compact, stretches over loads, wish it had a bag.
Size: Doube Layer
I am giving the double layer netted version of this product, for my uses, a 5 star, though there are two negatives to consider up front. 1. There is no storage bag included. 2. And the 6 caribeaners included are too cheezie to trust. Yes, the caribeaners will hold the net, and I assume your heavy loads will be strapped down before netting it. So I did install them in the straps just because. Bur I'll be putting the thick straps around the edge over bed hooks. I can't speak on how the single layer net would work, but you really will think after getting the double layer, that was the right choice. The mesh is tightly made and should hold even the messiness bag of trash in your truck bed from blowing out if you get the double layer. When you stretch the net out, it does act like a membrane, so you need several hooks around your bed or trailer. It stretched tightly around 5.5 x 7.5 1975 Datson pickup bed trailer. As you remember these beds have hooks all the way around and a curled lip surrounding the top. So this is perfect for full edge coverage. But if you have few hooks, the net will pull inward between the points lile a membrane would. If you need a stiff heavy duty throw over style net, this is not it. After hooked down, there is a great amount of stretch to cover good sized loads. This net is also excellent for containing a tarp covered load, keeping the tarp from coming loose and flapping around in the wind which is always a challenge on long trips. Also it will help contain brush and trash so that ENCON won't ticket you for uncovered loads. Light weight, easy to use, and it should hold up well for the price. Use one of those left over Ryobe tool bags you have laying around, and some better dollar-store caribeaners, and you'll be ser!
