The Whittet-Higgins Shoelok (NSH series, inch thread) is a mechanical self-locking bearing retaining nut that threads onto a shaft or spindle to position, preload, and secure bearings and other power-transmission components. It locks by means of tangential (X-axis) socket cap screws that, when torqued in a bolt-circle pattern, drive internally threaded hardened shoes radially inward against the shaft threads, producing uniform 360-degree clamping to the center of the shaft without damaging the threads.
Because adjustment and locking are accessed from the side of the nut, the Shoelok provides infinite adjustment and preloading capability and installs faster than a traditional locknut-and-lockwasher arrangement while eliminating the need to cut or repair a shaft keyway. Built entirely from hardened alloy and manufactured in the USA, it meets and exceeds the specifications of ANSI/ABMA 8.2-1999.
