Eines der wenigen Originalwerke der Klassik für Fagott und Klavier. Johannes Amon hat für fast alle Gattungen komponiert, wobei die Instrumentalmusik einen deutlichen Schwerpunkt bildet: Sinfonien, Konzerte und besonders Kammermusik. Dazu gehört auch die hier veröffentlichte Sonate Concertante / pour le / Piano Forté, Basson oû Flûte en fa / Composée & dédiée / à son ami Hoppius / par / J. Amon / Maître de Chapelle / Oeuv. 99 / Wallerstein chez J. Amon. Der Widmungsträger Christoph Ludwig Hoppius (1750-1824), für den auch Antonio Rosetti seine Fagottkonzerte komponiert hatte, wurde 1783 Mitglied der Hofkapelle in Oettingen-Wallerstein. Als Rosetti 1789 Wallerstein Richtung Schwerin verließ, folgte ihm Hoppius zum 1. Januar 1790, kehrte aber bereits im April zu verbesserten Bezügen nach Wallerstein zurück, wo er bis zum Ende seiner Laufbahn blieb. Die Sonate von Johannes Amon stellt beide Solisten als gleichberechtigte Partner nebeneinander. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad ist nicht übermäßig hoch, aber der harmonische und melodische Duktus des Werkes machen die Sonate zu einem ausgesprochenen lohnenden Werk.
